I was shocked when I read about Mike/Christine's suicide. I remember reading her blog immediately after the transition, and reading a bright, vibrant blog. While I'm not in any way a sports fan, she added enough personal insights and stories to always make the entries worth reading.
And then they just... stopped.
I wondered what had happened. I've been following the recent news as well as I can (and avoiding the ignorant and sometimes hateful commentary always associated with it). I just can't comprehend what she went through, what difficulties she must have faced even after such an apparently hearty welcome from her coworkers. Hearing that she went back to being Mike, and then shortly thereafter took her/his own life... it was heartbreaking.
Thanks for the link to this blog entry. I obviously do not understand the trans experience at the gut level, the cellular level, but that doesn't stop me from trying to understand what trans people face, and doing what I can to make sure I'm not adding to their burden.
I think this blog really captures how we can't know. I wanted to share it because I think it does get across something of the real struggle of being trans. I appreciate that you took the time to read it! :-)
