existential Trans March '09

Is it really a march when no one can see you or hear you?

What is 'visbility'?

Is this the end of the march? What are they saying up there? Have we done this poor a job of getting across to the next generation what a pride/visibility march is?

These and other questions were asked by those of us bemused to be standing in the middle of 26th St. in San Francisco on Friday.

Fortunately our bemusement ran to silliness.

I enjoyed being visibly leather.

Such was my Pride this year.

I also wore an old San Jose Pride tank top (bottom layer) while walking (ever so slowly... perhaps 'dawdling' is a better word) across the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday, part of a friend's birthday celebration. I saw about three other queer people. I was surprised, I expected hordes. The visiting queers were being proud elsewhere. :-)

I am perplexed about Pride now, too.

yeah, this does kinda coordinate with your experience as well.
odd.

I have decided part of my discomfort on Sunday is that I was marching with BDSM people, not leatherfolk. I can't always articulate the difference when explaining that I identify as the latter, but not the former. This was one of those times where I really *felt* that difference.

explaining the difference... is about impossible ime. ;-)

Plenty of people don't think there is any difference at all, which makes trying to explain even more difficult/awkward/important, in a way.

oooh. if you can explain the difference, I'd be glad to hear someone who can. I know there's a difference, I can usually figure out where a person will rest, but I bang my head against the wall trying to explain it.

I mean, going all Potter Stewart and saying, "I know it when I see it," doesn't count as an explanation. Drat.

off topic
