Downtown Cock-a-doodle-do
May. 4th, 2005 12:36 pmThe last two mornings, I have awoke in the sound of a rooster crowing.
I live downtown in one of the biggest cities in the country.
It is true a couple years ago I saw a couple of chickens in the street, which I thought quite remarkable. ;-) Apparently a rooster has been added to the roost, maybe the neighbors want chicks as well as eggs. Fascinating as they say. Well, I've always appreciated the bits of old farmhouse architecture extant downtown....
The MIS folks here at work are nice, but crazy (one might read a bit of lazy, or perhaps merely overworked into this as well). Yesterday I started having major PhotoShop problems, which MIS decided meant they would reinstall my entire system (which is always somewhat traumatic to me). As I was going to be absent for the afternoon, it made sense to do this wipe and reinstall while I was gone.
I came in today; no computer. I go over to my MIS guy; 'well, maybe it's the spyware, can I remove the spyware?' I coulda screamed. Of course, remove the spyware. So he did. Still not working. So, now three hours to reinstall the system after all! geez. so I sat at my working-in-Idaho-coworker's computer, read email, and did some reserach for work. And of course, now that I have my machine back, I'm tracking down the programs I use all the time. Verra verra silly. ;-)
Where I was yesterday: San Jose State U. is having a Transgender Awareness Week- very nifty! So I took half the day off and went to attend the Symposium Day. It was really pretty cool. Sat through some intro stuff, basic consciousness raising class, saw a short film by Aiden Crawford, Just a Boy (which I had heard good things of, and I did like it), then he answered questions; he was refreshingly angst-free. Next, a panel of ts folks, two male and two female, mostly question and answer, which was good. Folks asking questions on this topic makes me happy.
There was a little boy running about…. The mom I had done the deFrank LGBT Speaker’s Training with was there; I had been so impressed with her, so
much love for her kid, and there he was, bouncing a small ball later in the day, waiting, and she distributing a flyer about a tg family weekend! Extraordinary, smiling quiet tiny Hispanic woman creating the world she wants. Totally rocks.
Had dinner with Travis, of gay rodeo acquaintance (he is quite a mover and shaker there, as well as with the Day of Remembrance team). Walked up to Gordon Biersh. It was
really nice to catch up with him. He looked different in a baseball cap as opposed to a cowboy hat. :-)
The event ended for me with a visit to the photo exhibit (Transfigurations by Jana Marcus). It was marvellous, big black and whites of transsexual men, accompanied by a brief comment from each man. The diversity was amazing. I was really struck by four big panels of nudes; each guy had made a different choice in his genitals. How cool to know that all the kids passing through that building (and the week) are learning so much.
