honored in Alameda
Oct. 9th, 2006 01:18 pmAn uber-cool thing happened at ACLC's 13th anniversay dinner at the Turf Club, this past Saturday, Oct. 7.
Wyatt and I had gone to the Loch Lomond Highland Games during the day; it was lovely out, the music was good and the games were fun. The beer, sadly, was iffy. Ah well. I forgot my kilt but acquired a sporran! In any case it was fun, and we were tired afterwords.
We talked ourselves into going the ACLC anniversary, which we normally do. En route, we called Rod, who also talked himself into going. So we picked him up and Wyatt's magical mystery car (TM), and zoomed (um, slowly... 880 traffic early Saturday evening) on up, to the traditional parking lot.
We found seats, schmoozed, drank better booze, schmoozed... and finally time for sit down and dinner. The food rocked; it was catered, 'cowboy victuals', including pulled pork to die for and very nice southwest corn salsa. Yum. Finally, awards... ACLC's anniversary dinner was a huge part of the inspiration for SCCLA's event of the same type. :-) ( I love recognizing our own members!).
About half way through, Rod flipped over the paper program, and said 'Hey, why are we listed as honorary members?" I'm like: "It must be a mistake!" And half a second later, all three of our names were called! According to reports, we all stood there stunned like deer for a few seconds before approaching the stage, where assorted ACLC friends stuck it to us (pinned us). I felt so honored! It was too cool!
After, we talked with ACLC friends Lee and Kim. Kim said, she'd asked if Lee if they should make sure Rod, Wyatt and I knew to attend. Lee said: "Nah, they always show up".
Thank the gods we did! Huzzah for sister clubs.
