What I love about this video, as well as learning lots about depression, is how the science brings together all of different ways people have looked at psychology-related diseases... and finds they all have value; syncretic goodness. This guy (Robert Sapolsky) is an awesome lecturer. ... so many bright folks have depression, O my flist. Yea learning.

He gives an excellent explanation of current understanding of how things work. I particularly like how he links the psychological and physical aspects, that's tricky to do without coming to a stance that sounds almost like victim blaming.
I find it interesting to hear his comments about childhood stuff and about learned helplessness - I've experienced more of those than I would have liked, and it's possible to work on this stuff. It's just slow, step by step work.
The meditation helps. Rather a lot.
May I repost?
