"When do people perform best at any task, from sport to nuclear physics? When they’re relaxed, intent on what they’re doing and more of less oblivious of everything else. When they’re having fun. So loosen up and enjoy your life."
SlowLeadership.com came across an interesting site defining the 8principles of fun, at eight principles.com. It’s a site that is so in love with a few simple rules to enjoy life more, that they’re selling screensavers and things promoting them.
However, SL did something nice and gave a little run down of the 8 rules, while adding an important one of their own.
- 1. Stop hiding who you really are.
- 2. Start being intensely selfish.
- 3. Stop following the rules.
- 4. Start scaring yourself.
- 5. Stop taking it all so damn seriously.
- 6. Start getting rid of the crap.
- 7. Stop being busy.
- 8. Start something.
- 9. Don’t worry what others will think about you.

Did I get it right, or...?

Date: 2007-03-05 10:23 pm (UTC)My guess is... 'selfish' is something we each likely can define for ourselves... I think we know when we need to be more 'selfish'.... for me it tends to be deciding where to spend my time. I tend to take on a sense of obligation where none in fact exists (so I feel 'selfish' when not doing whatever it is). So I'm trying to term things in terms of priorities, the best use of my time.
Sounds like for you, selfish has to do with giving away what you don't have yourself (which could be time! as well as a zillion other things).
I love the directness and simplicity of this list. Give away the crap. Don't worry about what others think. Don't be so serious. Scare yourself (take risks). It all sounds like living with verve to me! I too am gonna do me best. :-)

Looks like that's the message for me too: BTW, if you've got the last issue of Witch Eye, there's an article by Valerie Walker (Thirteen Magickal Goals is the title, if I remember it well), raising more or less these very points, so I guess I'm going to be hard at work with them for a while...
